Tiny Parades was a series of five public processions that took place in May and June 2015, winding through the Perth CBD. Both solemn and tongue-in-cheek, the parades championed a selection of human-scale struggles and joys, while examining the nature of protest and public action.

Tiny Parades was commissioned by the Perth Public Art Foundation as a part of PerthFLUX 2015. All videos by Michael Maclean, photos by Michael Maclean unless otherwise stated.

#3 TECHNOSTALGIA

A celebration of abandoned technologies.

'Technostalgia' commemorates the glory of technologies recently superseded, as well as those long obsolete, those whose potential was never realised, and those fading into obscurity before our eyes. The mini-disc player, the Sony Betamax, the Nokia 3310, the dot-matrix printer: these and so many others have risen, fallen, been all but forgotten.

#4 THE EARTHWORM PARADE

A cheer squad raising awareness for the unsung heroes of the soil.

'The Earthworm Parade' saw passionate citizens unite as a cheer-squad championing the unsung heroes of the underground. They're overlooked, downtrodden (literally), used as bait and frequently squealed at. Using pom-poms, hula hoops, hyped up chants and a giant banner we set out to raise awareness for our earthworm friends, bringing attention to their ceaseless subterranean toil.

#5 The Keep Fighting Jubilee

A procession for bravery and resistance within public space.

For the grand finale of this series of Tiny Parades Snapcat took on new forms: giant headpieces and hairy bodies. They led a procession featuring colourful hats, balloons, confetti and a slow march: a joyful yet sombre statement for bravery, resistance and the gathering of community in public space.
